About Travel to Cat Ba Island
Cat Ba Island is the one of the few populated islands near Ha Long Bay and a popular starting point for lower cost cruises around the famous steep sided islands. Cat Ba Island is in Lan Ha Bay, rather than Ha Long Bay. Lan Ha Bay is very similar to Ha Long Bay and the two are often referred as both being part of Ha Long Bay for this reason. The big difference between the two bays is that Lan Ha Bay is a lot less crowded with tourists. The boat trips in Lan Ha Bay also tend to be cheaper than the trips around Ha Long Bay. The reason is that spectacular scenery is located a short distance from the coast of Cat Ba Island and tours involved the boat only travelling relatively short distances from the harbour with lots of stops on route. Popular stops on a boat tour of Lan Ha Bay include a visit to Monkey Island, which has a hill you can climb, kayaking in the bay itself, and stops at floating fish farms.
Seafront in Cat Ba TownCat Ba Island has one major town, simply called Cat Ba Town, and a number of more isolated resorts, which are located near good swimming beaches, on the road leading from the car ferry harbour to Cat Ba Town. Cat Bat Town does not have a beach but it does have a very beautiful seafront promenade, plenty of good restaurants and bars, and great value for money hotels such as the Lang Chai Hotel.
