Nha Trang Beach

Nha Trang’s city centre beach, also known as Tran Phu Beach, is 6 km of unbroken white sand curving gently around a bay with several islands. The beach starts a short distance to the north of the city centre with a pedestrian walkway running almost the entire length of the beach. During the tourist season the beach is busy, particularly the section of the beach closest to the city centre which has a number of resorts, restaurants, and late night bars at the edge of the sand.

About 3 km from the coast is Hon Tre Island, which is usually clearly visible from Nha Trang Beach. Hon Tre Island hosts a large entertainment complex called Vinpearl Land that’s accessible via a cable car service from a station located near the southern end of Nha Trang Beach. The Vinpearl Land complex has several indoor and outdoor amusement park areas, a 4D cinema, aquarium, theatre, golf course, and hotels. It’s very popular with Vietnamese tourists.

Other Attractions in Nha Trang

Other than the beach, the amusement park, the value for money hotels, and plentiful bars and restaurants, Nha Trang has other attractions that will appeal to visitors who aren’t really interested in a beach resort type vacation. Among the most significant of these attractions are:

  • Po Nagar Temple: Po Nagar Temple is Nha Trang’s most important cultural attraction. The known history of the temple begins in 781 AD, which is the date of an inscription by the King of the Cham Empire. The Cham are believed to have migrated from islands such as Java in the 1st and 2nd Centuries and ruled over much of southern Vietnam until the 15th Century. They brought with them a unique culture and a blend of religious beliefs. Po Nagar Temple is unusual as a consequence and unlike anything built by the people of the Viet culture.
  • Long Son Pagoda: Long Son Pagoda is a hillside temple located close to Nha Trang Railway Station. The main feature of the temple is a 24 metre high statue of the Lord Buddha in a seated position. The statue is located on a hilltop which you need to climb 152 steps to reach. The temple buildings near the entrance to the temple are very ornate, and the monks operate a very good vegetarian restaurant located near the main entrance gate.
  • Dam Market: Dam Market is one of three major markets in Nha Trang. The main things people come to Dam Market to buy are located made seafood products, such as dried fish, which are often given as gifts to family and friends by Vietnamese visitors. Clothes, toys, and souvenir type items are also sold at this market. The interesting thing about the market, however, is not so much the products on sale but the Soviet era style architecture of the older of the market buildings.
