About Travel to Da Nang
Da Nang is a large city with over 1 million residents that’s also a popular holiday destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Da Nang is not quite as popular a destination as Nha Trang, but in terms of things to see and do it’s a better place to visit. The facilities for tourists in Da Nang are also very good. The city’s airport is around 6 km by road from the busiest tourist area of the city, which has a wide range of hotels, bars, and restaurants.
Accommodation in Da Nang
Da Nang has over 800 tourist hotels, guesthouses, and hostels. The large number of places competing for customers has the tendency of keeping prices low, and overall accommodation in Da Nang is very good value for money. Mid-range hotels near the beach, such as the Adela Boutique Hotel where a beautifully decorated and well equipped room near the beach costs the equivalent of only $30 USD a night, are particularly good value.
The cheapest accommodation in Da Nang is in hostels, such as the Starfish Alley Hostel, where a bed in a shared dormitory costs from $4 USD a night. At the other end of the scale, branded beach-front resorts, such as the Danang Marriott Resort & Spa, cost over $300 USD a night.
The area where most foreign visitors to the city choose to stay is in the east of the city close to the northern part of My Khe Beach. There is also a cluster of hotels located near the west bank of the Han River closer to the city centre and near historic buildings such as Da Nang Cathedral.
My Khe Beach
For a lot of visitors to Da Nang the main attraction is the 30 km long My Khe Beach, which forms the eastern border of the city. The beach stretches down the coast from near to the Son Tra Peninsula to the north of the city almost all the way south to Hoi An Old Town.
The busiest part of My Khe Beach is the top end closest to Da Nang’s city centre. This area has lots of beach bars, restaurants, and food carts. There are also several designated swimming areas with life guards in this section of the beach. Despite being very long and very wide, beach goers, predominantly Vietnamese holiday makers, tend to cluster around those designated swimming areas.

Visitor Attractions in Da Nang City
Beyond the beach, Da Nang has several really good visitor attractions located right in the city centre. The attraction which Da Nang is most famous for is its 666 metre Dragon Bridge, which is one of 4 bridges in Da Nang spanning the Han River. The head of a metal sculpture of a dragon, which stretches the length of the bridge, shoots out fire and water in a show that takes place at 21:00 every Saturday and Sunday night. Close to the bridge is the very tourist oriented Love Lock Bridge and the adjacent DHC Marina development, which is a great place to sit and have a drink with a view of the river and bridge.
Other notable tourist attractions in Da Nang City include:
- Museum of Cham Sculpture: This museum holds a collection of around 2,000 artefacts, mostly stone sculptures, created by people from the Cham civilisation which controlled large parts of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia during the first millennium.
- Danang Fine Arts Museum: This well organised city centre gallery contains around 1,000 pieces of Vietnamese artwork relating to the culture and history of Vietnam. The museum is located near the train station.
- Han Market: This city centre indoor market sells everything from fresh fish to souvenirs to clothes. It’s a great place to come and find inexpensive clothing and shoes, as well as gifts to bring back to family and friends.
