About Ha Giang
Ha Giang, located near the border with China to the north-east of Sapa, has some of the most beautiful scenery in Vietnam and because its remote and underdeveloped relatively few people visit.
Travel Around Ha Giang
To access the area around Ha Giang you really need to hire your own car or motorbike and spend two to three days travelling in a loop around the area and back to Ha Giang town to return your rental car or bike.

Before you set off, however, you need to get a permit which is required for travel around what the Vietnamese classify as a ‘border area’. If you try to travel around the area around Ha Giang without permit and the police catch you they make you return to Ha Giang and fine you.
Permits are cheap and easy to get. The office you need to go to is a short distance from Ha Giang town centre on the east side of the river near to Ha Giang stadium. Opening hours are between 08:00 and 20:00. In the office you need to present your passport, the number on the vehicle’s registration plate, and fee of approximately $10. Having received your permit you are now ready to set off around Ha Giang.
