About Dalat
Dalat is a medium sized town in the South Central Highlands of Vietnam located at an altitude of 1,500 metres above sea level with gives it is a much cooler climate than low lying areas in South East Asia. Because of the climate Dalat was very popular with the French colonialists who left their mark on the city with distinctly European architecture leading many people to compare Dalat with the French Alps. Dalat is very popular with Vietnamese tourists for much the same reasons that the French liked the area so much. The town itself is a great place, but the surrounding countryside is more interesting. The centre piece of the town is Xuan Huong lake which you can hire boats to paddle around. Also of interest in the town is historic French designed train station and a pink church on a hill, the Nha Tho Domaine de Marie, where nuns still grow vegetables for sale.

The countryside surrounding Dalat is hilly with lakes and pine forests. Hiking, climbing and motorbike tours are popular ways to explore the surrounding area. An easier and quicker way to see the landscape is to take the cable car which departs from a station about 3 km south of Dalat town on a 4 km route terminating at Truc Lam Pagoda and Tuyen Lake. A round trip ticket on the cable car costs only 210,000 VND (equivalent to about $9 USD) making this attraction within the budget of most visitors to the area.
